How Does Hypnosis Work? Facts and Fiction.
All hypnosis is self-hypnosis
Contrary to popular opinion, you hold complete control during a hypnosis session. While you certainly are more suggestible during trance, you cannot be made to do something against your wishes.
So then, how exactly does it work?
Psychologists have long used the iceberg as an analogy for our minds. The part visible above the water represents our conscious mind, which is a mere fraction of the totality. The much larger part submerged below represents our subconscious mind.
Our conscious mind is responsible for our voluntary actions, thoughts, and decisions. Our subconscious mind drives our autonomic nervous system (regulating body temperature, breathing, heart beat, and the like) and maintains our comfort zone regarding habits and emotional/cognitive patterns.
Do you tell yourself over and over to stop a certain unwanted habit, addiction, or impulse ... only to find yourself giving in to temptation again and again? It’s frustrating, isn’t it? The reason that conscious vows don’t always work lies in the critical factor that protects our subconscious from excess suggestibility. While this critical factor is a necessary defense mechanism for our conscious mind, it can present an obstacle when attempting to undergo some form of self-improvement.
Hypnosis is fast and effective because we circumvent this critical factor and feed a new program directly into the subconscious mind.
Do not let your subconscious mind dictate to you how to live your life based on its past programming. It's time to take power over your subconscious mind and tell it to do what YOU want it to do.
